Meningitis : Symptoms

The symptoms vary according to the age of the individual.

Adults: Usually the patient starts feeling unwell and develops high fever, neck rigidity and/or severe headaches.
Other symptoms include:

  • dislike of bright lights(photophobia)
  • drowsiness
  • nausea and vomiting
  • seizures

Children and infants:
The symptoms include:

  • high fever
  • vomiting
  • refusing to feed
  • high pitched crying
  • a staring expression
  • stiffness of neck
  • irritability

When these symptoms are noticed, a doctor should immediately be consulted.
